One Month Shoot

Today Sophia and I had some fun with a little mini photo shoot.  I've been seeing these pictures all over Facebook for months with friends' babies and what seemed like little stickers marking each month.  I'd been curious where to get those stickers and I looked them up online.  Turns out they're all over Etsy for a mere 8 -10 dollars.  I thought it might be fun to make some of my own and finally got around to it today.

Trey and I actually took a one month shoot a week ago on Easter Sunday (which was more accurately her one month) and it's crazy to see how different she looks in even one week!  The last shot cracks me up because she really does look peeved.  But one second before she was smiling.  The look totally comes from her slipping in the chair but it's still funny.

One Month Check Up

I know I've already said it but I can't believe Sophia is already a month old!  This past month has just flown by and today we went to the pediatrician for her one month check up.  She was supposed to go tomorrow but has been spitting up more than usual so the doctor had us come in a day early.  I just called to check because she didn't spit up AT ALL for the first month but then started to these past few days - and sometimes quite a lot for hours after a feed.  Turns out the doctor thinks she's just an efficient eater and has been getting a little too much - little chunker.

And chunker she is - in a good way. She's gained 2 lbs 1 ounce since her birth!  She weighed in today at 8 lbs 3 ounces.  That puts her at 19th percentile for her weight.  She's 21 inches (grown 2 since birth) and 41st percentile there - whatever those mean.  To us - and the doctor - she's perfect! ;)

She had to have her second Hep B shot today and it broke my heart to see her turn from her usual happy go lucky self to a teary little pumpkin.  She didn't like that one bit.  Poor thing!

But when she got home she was all cute and cuddly and ready for a nap.  I took the opportunity to snag a few shots of her cute little self.

She slept through the night!

I can't believe how fast these past four weeks have flown by!  Our little girl is already a month old!  I am loving every minute of being a mom and love watching Trey in his new role.  It's always so cute to see him come home from a trip and he goes straight to her and gives a big shout out "Hey baby girl!"  He's in love and I can already tell she'll be a daddy's girl one day.

I love my daddy

But she's also mommy's girl and I have loved spending every minute with her these past four weeks.  She's such a good baby!  And I know I'm biased but I feel so lucky and at the fear of ginxing us she just is.  She started sleeping 4 hour stretches in the first week, 5-6 hour stretches by 3 weeks and while I think this may have been a fluke last night- she literally slept 8 hours!  I woke up twice to make sure she was still alive but I just couldn't believe it!

I woke up feeling like a new woman and it was certainly needed since I've been having terrible headaches for weeks.  I went to the neurologist yesterday and got some trigger point cortisone injections in my neck and head that will hopefully help with the headaches- but I gotta say, if Sophia keeps this pattern up that will certainly help the cause too.

See- she's mommy's girl too :)

What can I say, we have a cute little keeper.  Happy 4 weeks baby girl!

Sophia's Second Week & First Outing

Another week with our daughter has just flown by.  I feel like before I know it, I'll blink and my maternity leave will be over.  I try not to think about that because it makes me sad but I'm glad I won't be far from our precious little girl when that time comes.

In the meantime, we've kept busy and have started to get into a little routine.  It's rare that we make it downstairs before 1 pm with feedings and naps and me trying to push through this recovery and feel better.  My incision pain has subsided but I've been tormented by some pretty horrible headaches this past week.  I tried to lay off the oxycodone and they seem to be subsiding (thank God).

Other than that, it's been smooth sailing for our new little family.  Our friend Jen came over Tuesday and Thursday to do a newborn shoot for Sophia.  I can't wait to see the pictures.  Trey snagged a few on our camera while Jen was working and she looks so cute so I can only imagine the ones Jen took.

We also had some special visitors Thursday when Carrie Beth brought over Handley, Harper and Hudson for a visit.  The girls were so excited to see Sophia and you could tell they were so proud and happy to hold their cousin for a picture- especially Harper who couldn't contain herself.  Can't wait for them to play together one day.

Then today, Trey and I decided to venture out of the house.  I've just about had it being stuck at home - though I know I need to still take it easy - but I figured a short trip wouldn't hurt.  So, we headed out to Lowes and Home Depot to check out some patio furniture for our new screen porch and ended with a trip to RaceTrac for some swirl world.  Not bad for a first outing.

I can't wait until Sophia has all her shots and I'm feeling much better so we can take her more places.  It's certainly a different experience when you head out with a newborn and all the gear they need, but our new normal is kinda fun and I'm ready for all the new adventures that lie ahead.

4 Generations

Today Sophia got to meet my abuela.  I am so lucky to still have my grandmothers around to meet her and glad abuela finally got over her cold so she could come by and see her.  She's been dying to come over and Sophia took to her right away.  Smart girl :)  but what's not to love about your grandmother - or great grandmother.

We survived week 1!

I can't believe our little girl is already a week old!  Time flies when you're having fun, I suppose.  Or maybe it just flies when you move from sleep to feeding to diaper change to sleep to feeding to diaper change.  Something like that.

It's amazing how an entire day can go by like a second and you look back and the biggest accomplishment of the day was getting up, taking a shower and maybe squeezing in a photo shoot or trip to the pediatrician.  Or in my case, walking down the stairs once a day for a change of scenery and to eat dinner.

Gone are the days of the quick exit from the house but then again everything will be in slow motion until I'm back to speed and fully recovered.  I move around a like a turtle when I move because I'm trying to follow doctor's orders, rest up and let my incision heal.  It's quite a pain (pun intended).

about to leave the hospital

so teeny- nothing fits!

Welcome Home baby girl!

Our first night home was a little rough to say the least.  Sophia did not want to sleep in the cradle and we tried everything to calm her down.  I finally suggested we try out the vibrating bassinet in the pack and play around 5 am and it worked like a charm.  She's been sleeping in it since.

First sponge bath

But when I'm at the end of my rope and want to cry from the slightest touch or movement at the incision site I look at my girl or cuddle her and all is well in the world.  She's totally worth it.  And funny thing is, you don't even mind waking up all night long to feed her because she's just so darn cute and you'd do anything to alleviate her discomfort when you hear that cute little baby hunger cry.  She just melts our hearts and I may sound like a broken record but despite the pain this week, it's been the most amazing week of my life to realize that our girl is here to stay and we get to watch her grow and raise her.  It's been a learning experience for Trey and I, for sure - but it's fun at the same time and we sure do feel lucky and blessed.
