It all got started Thursday night when Trey and I headed to Piedmont Park after work for their Screen on the Green Summer series and it was so much fun! I had been telling Trey I wanted to go before the series was over and Thursday was the last night so it was then or wait until next year.
On Saturday night we headed to Bridge Tender by the Marina for dinner and had a delicious seafood feast and Sunday night it was off to Capt'n Bills, owned by Trey's uncle. The weather was great and it was so nice to just do nothing but relax on the beach both days. But as usual, it went by like a minute and it was back to Atlanta this morning.
After dinner we waited for the weather to die down then drove over just in time to see the fireworks in Marietta Square. They were basically starting when we were less then a few blocks from the square so we pulled over on the side of the road into a little store driveway and listened the patriotic music playing to the fireworks from Kicks 101.5.
We thought it would be fun to get a group of friends together to join us but because of work schedules, babies, etc it ended up being just us. It worked out just fine though and gave us the chance to have a little romantic date night. Trey met me at my office in midtown and we walked the mile down to the park with picnic basket, blankets, and food in tote. We finally got to use some of the picnic accessories that people had given us as wedding gifts and it was just such a nice night to be out in the park watching Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory under the stars with a beautiful view of the Atlanta skyline. It really made us realize how many great things this city has to offer and it's crazy how so many things are within minutes of us and we don't take advantage like we should.

On Friday after work it was off to Wilmington for our annual Fourth of July weekend trip to see Trey's parents. It was definitely a low key weekend that went by too fast. We missed having my sister-in-law Carrie Beth, Robby, and the girls there but since Carrie Beth is weeks away from her due date they stayed in Atlanta this trip. We had a great relaxing time though and slept in both days- which felt great!

We made great time coming back today and had time to celebrate the 4th when we got home. Although the weather wasn't cooperating tonight, we managed to sneak out some food to the grill between the downpour and had a delicious Fourth of July Cookout.

What wasn't looking promising when the rain started, turned out to be a great end to the 4th of July and the long weekend. Despite the weather and craziness of the day driving home, Trey and I were able to feel a sense of peace as we watched the sky light up over Marietta Square and listened to the patriotic songs on the radio and you could tell both he and I were reminded of what this day means and how proud we are to be Americans.
